Hello!

I’m Andrea, a mum to two boys and a full time family photographer. I’m also a qualified member of the Guild of Photographers. I’ve won various awards including runner up image of the year in 2013!

I’ve Family Photographer Londontaken a break from entering competitions over the last year and focused on doing what I absolutely love, photographing families in their home or on location. I’ve photographed over 250 families in and around London. A lot of the families I work with have a parent with a keen interest in and a great eye for photography. They know what they like, they appreciate photos that are stylish, honest and creative.

That’s why they hire me!

Alas, I can’t be with the families I photograph all the time. Invariably, it will be you, Mum or Dad, that is there to capture those everyday moments that are just as beautiful and important as the professionally taken photos I supply you with. If only it was that easy though… if only you could make head or tail of the camera manual. If only you had the time or inclination to gain a degree in photography (or at least that’s how it feels!) just so you can take beautiful photos of your children growing up.

Well now you don’t need to! I want to pass on what I’ve learnt over the years, the tricks I use to find amazing light, tell stories through beautiful composition and take control of the camera! If you think this what you’ve been looking for, a simple way to learn all the tricks for taking better photos – book your place now!

Why don’t you check out ‘What DSLR should I buy?’

Photography classes in London

The workshops are a half-day affair, so plan to spend up to 5 hours here.

You will need a DSLR or bridge/compact system with the ability to take off auto. If you have any questions about the camera you are using just let me know.

Here’s what some past attendees have to say:

Excellent and intimate class that is tailored round your camera and your own experience.  Andrea forces you to critique other photos and really question why certain photos work more than others which ultimately will make for better shooting. I found the balance between creative discussion on composition and technical learning about settings worked really well and kept me engaged for the whole session.
-Sara

I loved Andrea’s workshop! Before the session I was intimidated by my camera and felt much safer using my iPhone to capture special moments as my baby son grows up. The first time I used my camera after the class I was amazed at how much better my photographs already were, just by concentrating on a few of the simple tips I learned. Now I just need to practice more!
-Anne

I enjoyed the relaxed informal approach, I felt completely comfortable with the fact I had no previous knowledge of the camera or proper photography. I had not expected or appreciated how important the light is and how much information and pointers you would give us, this has really made me think about how I take photos and how I position myself and not just what I’m taking.
-Shann

I really enjoyed the class and learnt an awful lot, so thank you again. The lecture was very well delivered and the material / topics covered were exactly what I was hoping for when I signed up. It was a good balance between creative and technical tips.

I have recently attended a ‘Photography for Parents Workshop’ hosted by Andrea Whelan and would encourage any photo-keen parents to do the same! It is a fantastic opportunity to improve your photography skills, without having to get too immersed in technical details.  Andrea has a real passion for creating beautiful family pictures and simply wants to give you the tools to create your own captivating memories.
