Mayfair Family Photoshoot on a London Holiday Morning

This Mayfair family photoshoot started in a cloud of mist, which felt about right for London. The family were here on holiday, with two brothers in matching navy shirts. Their plan was simple. They wanted pictures that felt like their trip, not a postcard.

Starting early in Mayfair

We met in the morning on Carlos Place. The water feature outside The Connaught lets out a soft mist every so often. Low sun turns it gold. So I stood the family beside it and we waited for the next puff.

Mayfair is quiet at that hour. Delivery vans outnumber shoppers, and the red brick glows. For holiday families, an early start also leaves the rest of the day free for sightseeing.

Holiday sessions come with their own little pressures. Flights, jet lag and packed plans all compete for time. That is why I keep things relaxed and close together. Nobody needs a long trek before breakfast.

Walking the streets like locals

After the mist, we just walked. Mum led the way along Mount Street, laughing at something the boys said. Both brothers stood in a patch of sunshine and tried very hard to look serious. It lasted about four seconds.

Mount Street has some of the prettiest shopfronts in London. Pink terracotta, black railings and neat little trees line the pavement. It looks grand, yet it feels friendly at that time of day.

Then we passed the round window at Scott’s. I love that front, because it frames people like a stage set. Mum and her youngest strolled past hand in hand, and I stayed across the road.

Meanwhile, the boys found a kerb to sit on. Kerbs are underrated. They are also free to sit on, which is rare in Mayfair. Children relax the moment they sit down, and the giggles follow soon after.

Shoulder rides and big skies

Dad soon became a climbing frame. His youngest rode on his shoulders with the fancy rooftops behind them. At one point he clamped both hands over Dad’s mouth. Of course, I kept shooting.

His big brother wanted in on the fun too. Instead of lining everyone up, I let the hug happen on its own. That whole moment took under a minute, yet it shows exactly who this family is.

A Mayfair family photoshoot with pastries

Next came the most important stop. We found a little farm shop cafe on South Audley Street, all striped awnings and fresh bread. The boys pressed their noses to the glass. Pastries were chosen with great care.

Outside, we sat at the red tables while the parents had coffee. Mum stole a bite of pastry, and her son pretended to be outraged. I also took a few frames through the window, which gave a lovely layered feel.

Holiday sessions work best when they include something you would do anyway. A coffee stop is real life, and it gives little legs a rest.

Time for the grown ups

To finish, the boys leaned on a wooden bench in a leafy corner nearby. Then we went back to the mist for a few pictures of Mum and Dad on their own. Parents rarely get photographed together on holiday. Still, those are often the pictures they treasure most.

Planning your own Mayfair family photoshoot

Go early, because Mayfair streets are at their emptiest before the shops open. Wear colours that sit well against red brick, like navy, cream and soft blue. Comfortable shoes matter too, since we will walk a fair bit. Finally, bring an appetite for pastries.

Got Questions?

Early morning is my favourite, because the streets are calm and the light is soft. Weekends can be quieter still. Later in the day gets busier with shoppers. We can pick a time that fits your plans.

Yes, and a morning session is often easiest. It leaves the rest of your day free for sightseeing. Send me your dates early so we can find a slot. I will help you plan around jet lag too.

Mayfair is full of red brick and warm stone. Navy, cream, soft blue and gentle neutrals look lovely against it. Avoid big logos and very bright neon. Above all, wear shoes you can walk in.

It works really well for families. There are quiet side streets, small gardens and plenty of cafes for a snack stop. Children love the mist on Carlos Place. We keep the pace easy and follow their mood.

Usually we stay within a small area, so the walking is gentle. The streets around Mount Street and South Audley Street sit close together. Little ones can ride on shoulders when legs get tired. We will plan a route that suits your family.

London weather keeps us all humble. Light rain can look lovely, and there are covered spots nearby. If the forecast looks bad, we can talk about options. I will keep in touch in the days before your session.
