ANDREA
WHELAN

LONDON FAMILY PHOTOGRAPHER SINCE 2011

My sessions are designed to feel easy.

The families I work best with tend to focus on their children, each other, and whatever is unfolding in front of them.
That’s when everything softens, and the photographs start to feel like something real.

I photograph families in a way that feels relaxed, honest, and very much like real life.

I’m drawn to big laughter, quiet tenderness, funny awkwardness, and the moments that happen when people stop thinking about how they look and start engaging with each other instead. The photographs I care about most are the in-between moments that feel ordinary moments at the time and truly meaningful later.

I’m based in Greenwich, South East London, but I work with families all over London and beyond, often photographing people while they’re travelling, celebrating, or simply wanting to remember a particular chapter of life.

I’m also a mum, which means I’m very familiar with noise, chaos, distraction, and the unpredictability of children, and I’m completely at ease with all of it.

Outside of photography, I’m happiest outdoors. I love hiking, especially the tough, hilly kind where you earn the view. There’s something grounding about reaching the top, feeling slightly exhausted and wonderfully insignificant, and gaining a bit of perspective.

That way of seeing the world, noticing scale, light, energy, and emotion, inevitably shapes how I photograph families too.
