There’s something about late autumn in London. The light goes soft and golden, the parks empty out as the temperature drops, and you can get a whole common almost to yourselves on a windy weekday.
This session with Sophia and her parents was exactly that. We started at home in Clapham, then wrapped up warm and headed across to Wandsworth Common. Cold, windy, completely worth it.

At-home family photography in Clapham
We began in the bedroom, which is somewhere I often start with families. The light tends to be soft, the children are usually comfortable there, and there’s something about the easy physicality of a family piled on a bed that I love photographing.
Sophia, who’d recently found her feet and was determined to use them, had other plans. She wanted to be on the move. So we worked around her, capturing those busy, determined toddler moments alongside the calmer ones with mum and dad. Some of my favourite frames from the session came from this part… including a quietly beautiful one of her dad with her by the window.

A family walk on Wandsworth Common
One of the things I love about photographing in South West London is how well-placed Clapham and Wandsworth are for outdoor spaces. Wandsworth Common, Clapham Common, Battersea Park… all within easy reach for a family session that moves between indoors and out.
We chose Wandsworth Common that day, and the weather was on its worst behaviour. Properly cold, properly windy. But we more or less had the place to ourselves, and the late autumn colour through the trees gave us beautiful, atmospheric frames. Sophia, reindeer jumper on, was thoroughly unbothered by the chill.

Booking a family session in South West London
I work with families across London and Wandsworth, Clapham, Battersea, and Balham are all areas I love photographing in. A typical session moves between your home and a nearby outdoor space, so the photographs feel rooted in the places you actually love.
