As a family portrait photographer in Greenwich Park I was delighted when Emilie got in touch about a session with her beautiful, happy little family. I met Emilie, Andy and their little boy Harry outside the museum, beside the big ship in a bottle. (On this note, what a marvel that is!)
It’s always interesting waiting for families when all I know abut them is what they’ve written in the booking form (which thankfully is often quite a lot, as it helps me get to know families before a shoot). So, I’m armed with names, ages and a few paragraphs about them. Not knowing what they look like means I’m eyeing up every family that has similar aged children to those I’m expecting. Surprisingly enough, I’ve not yet approached the wrong family with a most enthusiastic “Hello there! I’m Andrea, great to meet you!” – though give it time!
Luckily, Emilie and Harry spotted me right away, the red hair and camera usually give me away so families can spot me from afar! The day of our photo session in Greenwich park it was the hottest day of the year so far and the park was incredibly busy. Don’t be fooled by the photos below, there is not one other person in them apart from the beautiful family that booked me. I guess this is another reason why you choose a professional photographer, we have the skill to remove distractions, both in camera and in post processing. We also have the patience to wait, and keep waiting until the absolute perfect moment to press the shutter and record the scene. The perfect scene could last only a split second so patience and perseverance is imperative in this job! As you can see, it looks like we had the park to ourselves but I can assure you we didn’t.
Harry had his first introduction to crawling on (and tasting!) grass, I was more than pleased to be there to record the great ‘Oh!’ expression that followed. It’s safe to say we wore him out and Mum and Dad may have had a job to keep him awake ’till bedtime.
